John H. Munroe, passed away at his Warwick, RI home on June 3, 2014, with his wife, Gail B. (Olson) Munroe and family members at his side. On June 1, he celebrated his 73rd birthday, and planned to celebrate his 50th wedding anniversary with Gail this September.

Born in Providence, a son of the late John K. Munroe, Jr. and Gertrude (Acres) Munroe, he divided his time between his residences in Warwick and in Campton, New Hampshire. A Warwick Veterans High School graduate of 1959, John went on to become a machinist and toolmaker. He worked for Gambar Products, Wheeler Machines, and Electric Boat before going into business with his father, founding Munroe Tool Co. in 1971, where he worked for more than 40 years. He also served 14 years in the National Guard. He loved reading, fishing, and traveling. John was also a Little League team sponsor for 40 years as well as a coach for several years. He was a member of the Norwood Baptist Church.

Besides his wife, John is survived by his children, David Munroe and his wife, Jennifer, and Peter Munroe; his grandchildren, Jill and Maxwell Munroe; his sister, Carole Munroe Emmett; and his many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 22 at 3 p.m. at the Norwood Baptist Church, 48 Budlong Ave., Warwick, RI 02888.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Norwood Baptist Church or to Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
