a firefighter

John R. Duchesneau Jr., 83, died November 9, 2011 at Kent Hospital.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late John R. and Elizabeth (Cataldo) Duchesneau Sr. He resided in Islamorada, Fla. since 1980, formerly residing in Cranston. Mr. Duchesneau was a firefighter with the city of Cranston for 23 years. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War. John was a member of the VFW Post 1 in West Warwick and a member of the Order of the Moose in Florida.

He was the loving father of Mary E. Duchesneau of Cranston, John R. Duchesneau III of West Greenwich, Steven A. Duchesneau, David W. Duchesneau, both of Warwick, and Mark A. Duchesneau of Charlestown. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and was a longtime companion of the late Janice Maxwell.

His funeral was private at the convenience of the family.
