John W. Anderson

John W. Anderson, age 88, of Missouri Drive, Warwick, died on March 14, 2013 at Kent County Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Rita M. (Tramonti) Anderson.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of the late Oscar G. and Josephine M. (Lunney) Anderson, he lived in Warwick since 1935. He was a United States Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Mr. Anderson was a sales representative for Heller Hope, later Golay Buchel, for 25 years, retiring in1991. He was previously employed at Dieges & Clust for 22 years. He was an active member of Ss. Rose and Clement Parish in Warwick, and a former member of the Warwick Sewer Authority and the Ward 6 Democratic Committee.

He is survived by a son, John R. Anderson of Hartford, Conneticut, two daughters, Linda C. Mastrobuono of West Greenwich and Paula J. Martorelli of Warwick; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren who affectionately called him “Gumpy.” He was the father of the late Donna M. Flaherty, and the grandfather of the late Timothy J. Packhem.

His funeral was held on Monday, March 18, from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Clement Church, 111 Long Street, Warwick. Burial with military honors was in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich. Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Clement Church.
