John W. Tate, Sr.

John W. Tate, Sr., 91, died Saturday, November 26, 2016. He was the husband of the late M. Sally (D’Ambra) Tate.

A life long resident of Warwick, he was a son of Knight and Ester (Hoy) Tate. Mr. Tate had been employed by the City of Warwick with the Department of Public Works, after his retirement, he worked for the Warwick School Department as a bus monitor. A World War II Army veteran, he had served in the European Theatre and was the recipient of two purple hearts. He was a very humble man who was devoted to his wife and family. He also enjoyed being on the bay and quahoging.

He is survived by his children: John W. Tate, Jr., David T. Tate and partner Brian S. Santos, and Leslie A. Summers and husband, Craig. He is survived by his brother-in-law Peter D’Ambra and sister-in-law Norma (D’Ambra) Bloom. He was the grandfather of Jessica (Bonnie), Jason (Nichole), Shannon, Haylee, Jason, and Jordan; great grandfather of Austin, Gracie-Mae, Madison, Makenzie, and Zackary.

A private funeral will be held at the Veterans Cemetery at the wishes of the family.
