Joseph R. Suffredini

Joseph R. Suffredini, 73, of Warwick, formerly of Darien, Conn., died at home February 2, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Charlotte (McFarlin) Suffredini.
Born in Philadelphia, Pa., he was a son of the late Dante J.R. and Rita A. (Nocentini) Suffredini. Mr. Suffredini received a degree from Georgetown University in physics and started his career in optics at Perkin Elmer. While there he worked on the Hubble Telescope. He continued his work in medical imaging technology at both Raytheon and Comet N.A. He holds many patents in C.T. technology.
He was treasurer of the Buttonwoods Fire District, a past president of the Literacy Volunteers of Kent County Inc. and was a recipient of the Elizabeth G. Jimmo Annual Award for Excellence and the Unsung Heroes Award. He was a Eucharistic minister at Rhode Island Hospital and a licensed private pilot.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Martha A. Ladd of Half Moon Bay, Calif., J. Christopher Suffredini of Astoria, N.Y., Julia D. Guilmette of Old Saybrook, Conn. and Charles D. Suffredini of Westlake, Ohio; six grandchildren; and siblings Joan Sutton, Rita Lapcevic, Angela Merkle, Ann Lentini, J. Michael Suffredini and Anthony Suffredini.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Feb. 7 at 10 a.m. at SS. Rose and Clement Parish, 111 Long St., Warwick. Calling hours were held Feb. 6 at Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. Burial will take place Feb. 8 at 11 a.m. at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien.
