Joseph Shevlin Whalley, age 91 of West Warwick, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Mary (Bannon) Whalley for 65 years.

Born July 30, 1925 in New Bedford, MA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Alma (Brodeur) Whalley. He proudly served as a United States Navy SeaBee in World War II, stationed in the Pacific. Joseph was a graduate of the Rhode Island College of Pharmacy, Class of 1950. He led a successful life and accomplished career as the owner of Whalley's Pharmacy in Warwick, RI for 40 years. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, and landscape painting during his long retirement.

He was the devoted father of Joseph S. Whalley, David P. Whalley, Thomas J. Whalley, James M. Whalley, Linda M. Oliver and Mary L. Whalley; and loving grandfather to eight grandsons. He was pre-deceased by his brother Dr. Evan Whalley and his sisters Dorothy Lake, Grace Hewitt, and Edna Jones.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday evening, January 20th, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Russell J. Boyle Funeral home, located at 142 Centerville Road in Warwick RI. His funeral will be held on Saturday, January 21st 2017 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 8:30 a.m. at Saint Gregory the Great Church located at 360 Cowesett Road in Warwick RI. Burial will follow at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery located at 301 S County Trail, Exeter, RI.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Saint Gregory the Great Memorial Fund.
