* * * (Kids)
My usher friend said that the only difference between "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and "Journey 2" is that Dwayne Johnson plays the Brendan Fraser role.
In any case, the movie steals from Jules Verne once again, this time featuring that mysterious island with its volcano and giant spiders, electric eels, bees and birds, plus the Nautilus.
Josh Henderson is back as Sean, the sulking son whose mom marries Hank and moves away from his old friends. He gets a mysterious message from his grandfather (Michael Caine), who is living on this mysterious island. Hank and Sean take a helicopter to the island, piloted by Gatado, an irritating guy who has a pretty young daughter.
Will Sean and Kailani hook up?
Will Sean and his stepfather bond?
Will they get off the island before it sinks into the sea?
Will they find the sunken Nautilus?
The kids may care, but I didn't.
Rated PG, with a few giant creatures that may scare anyone under 5.
