The Providence Jr. Friars 2007 EHF team, with a few players from Warwick on the roster, capped off a big weekend with a tournament victory at the Rochester Invitational two weeks ago.

The first game of the tournament pitted the Jr. Friars against West Seneca. The Jr. Friars won the game, thanks to a great start, scoring five goals in the first period. Later that day, the Jr. Friars played against the Firland Flyers and won that game due to a great offensive outburst in the second period, as they tallied four goals in the period.

The next morning, the team played the Rochester Jr. Grizzlies who were undefeated as well. The team started off well, skating to a 3-1 lead, but the Jr. Grizzlies never gave up and scored a goal at the end of the second period and then one in the third to tie the game.

With their 2-0-1 record in the round robin, the Jr. Friars clinched the No. 1 seed for the semifinals. In the semi-finals, the team played against an upset-minded West Seneca team. Yet, the Jr. Friars scored four goals in the third period to capture a spot in the finals.

The finals pitted the Jr. Friars against the Rochester Jr. Grizzlies, once again. The rematch was just as intense as the first game between the two teams. The Jr. Friars and Jr. Grizzlies matched goals in the first period. The second period was up and down, with solid goaltending from both teams, keeping the game deadlocked at one heading into the final stanza.

The Jr. Friars were able to break the deadlock with less than five minutes to go in the game. The Jr. Grizzlies continued to apply the pressure, but the Jr. Friars’ goaltending and defense were not going to let this victory slip away. The Jr. Friars sealed the 3-1 victory by scoring their third goal of the game with less than two minutes to play.

Players on the team are: Angelo Evangelista, Zachari Fontenault, Everett Baldwin, Justin Baxter, Jaden Bourski, Giacomo Caliri, Max Donatelli, Nick Ferguson, Jack Fontaine, Gianni Fontenault, Aidan Forcier, Tommy Hayden, Mike Masse, Jack Moretta, Evan Rogers, Noah Schenenga and Eddie Walsh. The team is coached by Jim Forcier, Matt Bourski, Paul Evangelista and Kevin Schenenga.
