Just remember the numbers

Master lever aside, if you want to know what is wrong with America, just remember the numbers 40 and 91. Forty percent of the guns in this country are sold without any background check while 91 percent of the people favor such checks to keep guns out of the hands of criminals, terrorists and the mentally challenged. Yet, efforts for checks will likely fail because special interests, not the people's will, guide our politicians.

More than ever, special interests have twisted the U.S. government into doing their bidding in every area from gun control, bank regulation, health care, voting rights, environmental protection, tax policy, consumer protection, military spending and more. They whip up fear and hate to get their people elected. Those politicians they cannot buy, they simply “cash whip” into silence. When that does not work, their soldiers conduct endless filibusters to thwart the majority will.

Until we have an informed electorate that recognizes this game and refuses to fall for their efforts to keep Americans divided, crippled and fighting among ourselves, nothing will change, and the 30-year shift of money away from the middle class and to the top 1 percent will continue.

Charles, that 40% figure that you and Obama keep touting has been proven false. It is about 22%. The 40% is about 30 years old. But don't let facts stop you.

I saw the phrase "...top 1 percent" and immediately looked for the requisite word "hate". "Hate" is the hip buzzword to stifle debate. If you disagree with homosexual marriage, you're a 'hater'. Think our federal spending is out of control? You're a 'hater'. Disagree with this president on anything, or believe we have a problem with welfare abuse? You're a 'hater'. And there it was in the fifth sentence: "hate".

"Informed electorate...", indeed. Hey Charles, how about joining me in endorsing legislation that mandates a certain civic knowledge base before voting? This would include knowledge of marginal tax brackets, the constitution, and US history. Such legislation would guarantee an informed electorate as you desire, while rendering liberals unelectable.
