Eleven members of Warwick Troop 4 under the direction of Benjamin O’Donnell, who is working to earn his Eagle Badge, took on the task of clearing land, at the intersection of Narragansett Parkway and Parkside Drive, of undergrowth and fallen branches and trees Saturday morning. O’Donnell gained state approval to “adopt” the spot. After clearing it, he aims, with the help of donations, to spread mulch under bushes and seed open areas with grass. O’Donnell said he joined the troop in 2005 when it was known as Troop 4 of 4. The ranks have now grown to 24. The Pilgrim senior, seen here in front of his band of helpers, plans to join the Navy after graduating this year. Eventually, he would like to be a firefighter. The “adopt a spot” cleanup, which he pledges to do for the next two years, is his Eagle community service project.
