Kathryn C. “Kat” Crosby, 77 of Riviera Beach, FL and Warwick, RI died Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Kent Hospital in Warwick. For the past 50 years she was the beloved wife of Robert D. Crosby..

Born in Las Cruces, NM, a daughter of the late Albert B. and Florence (Smith) Cox, she graduated from Las Cruces High School. She received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from New Mexico State University and a master’s degree from Rhode Island College. For 33 years, Kat was an elementary school teacher, a profession that she loved. She spent most of her career teaching second graders at the Christopher Rhodes School in Warwick where she was adored by her students and remembered for her kindness. Kat and her husband were avid boaters and sports fans and she enjoyed watching both of her children play sports and could frequently be found cheering on the local youth teams, as well as her beloved Patriots and Red Sox. She also enjoyed bowling, tennis, and volleyball, as well as reading and playing solitaire. Most importantly, she loved being with her family.

Kat is remembered for her sweet, gentle soul, her kindness towards all –family, friends, and strangers, and for always having an encouraging word that could brighten the darkest of days. People were drawn to Kat's warmth, and she made every gathering more fun. She will be missed dearly by all that had the opportunity to know and love her.

She was also the beloved mother of Allison K. Lombardi & her husband, Adam of Warwick and Michael A. Crosby & his wife, Julia of Sudbury, MA. Kat was the sister of the late Bonnie Ligon, whose husband was the late David, and the late Sara Hopkins, whose husband is Dale, all of Las Cruces. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews in New Mexico and Rhode Island, as well as her sisters-in-law Jean (Crosby) Cameron and her husband Harold, and Carol (Crosby) Carlisle and her husband Carlton.

Her funeral service and burial in Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick will be private.
