Emily James came to teach a master class at Defying Gravity School of Dance in Cranston on Aug. 18, with roughly 30 students on hand. They learned a contemporary piece and performed in smaller groups. After class, students were able to obtain autographs. James, 21 is a native of North Kingstown, and was in the top 16 on Fox’s television show “So You Think You Dance.” Nicole Bibby, owner of Defying Gravity, and her sister Brittany Iafrati grew up dancing with James at Dance Artistry in Warwick, owned by Kelly Cannone. Nicole competed in a duet together with Emily, and both sisters took part in group dances with her. Emily will be returning in a few weeks to Los Angeles, where she will be filmed on the live finale show of “So You Think You Can Dance.” Defying Gravity students and parents will be supporting her at one of her shows at Foxwoods Resorts & Casino in November. Defying Gravity School of Dance is located at 140 Comstock Parkway, Unit 8 Cranston, and is accepting fall registrations for a variety of recreational and competition team classes.
