Lawyer of the Year
Kent County Bar Association names David Revens ‘lawyer of year’
DAVID E. REVENS

On Dec. 8, David Revens, partner at Warwick’s Revens, Revens and St. Pierre, has been named 2011’s Lawyer of the Year by the Kent County Bar Association. The association makes the award annually to a distinguished lawyer.

Gregory Inman, Esq., president of the Kent County Bar Association, said individuals are nominated on the basis of good standing, respect around the courthouse and a well-established reputation.

Initially, the executive board of the bar association nominates three to four lawyers. The board then votes on who should ultimately receive the honor.

This year, Inman said Revens was a clear choice.

“He’s a great guy,” said Inman. “He’s a well-respected individual. He doesn’t have enemies out there, but respect is the biggest thing. He’s been around a long time. I’m surprised he didn’t get the award any earlier than this.”

Revens was surprised to receive the award at the Kent County Bar Assocation’s Holiday Party last month.

“I was very, very surprised,” said Revens, who wasn’t aware of his nomination.

Revens graduated from the South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas after earning his bachelor’s degree from Providence College. He has been practicing for 32 years. His areas of practice include family law, personal injury and estate planning. In addition to his practice, Revens also served as the town solicitor for North Kingstown in the early 1980s. Revens and his brother, John Revens Jr., a former member of the Rhode Island Senate, are partners at their firm, Revens, Revens and St. Pierre.

Revens isn’t sure what put him ahead of the pack this year, but he’s still grateful.

“I think it’s a recognition by my fellow attorneys of what I’ve done in the community,” he said. “I’m really pleased and honored.”

“He’s a very deserving individual,” said Inman, who called Revens a “great lawyer.”

“I’m very happy for him,” he said.
