Jacob Sock, a Greenwood Elementary School fifth grader, helped to spearhead a project that resulted in a donation of $1,300 to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. With the full support of Greenwood Principal Dennis Winn, Jacob distributed “Nothing” cans from the Food Bank to every student in the school. Each can resembles a soup can with a coin slot on top. They are labeled “Nothing” to represent what many Rhode Islanders have on their plates at mealtime. In just two weeks, the cans started pouring back into the school. When the money was counted, coins, dollars and checks added up to an impressive $1,300. Their contribution will help the Food Bank acquire nearly 4,000 pounds of food.
