The CCRI Knights co-ed golf team hosted the Region XXI Golf Tournament at Cranston Country Club in Cranston, RI, with the second and final round being held last Wednesday. The Knights entered day two of the tournament in third place with an aggregate score of 348 trailing first-place Springfield Technical Community College, which shot a team score of 337 by 11 strokes. The Knights put together an excellent second round of 338 to rally back and take the Region XXI Tournament with a two-day total of 686. In second place was Mass Bay Community College with a score of 698, third was Springfield Technical Community College with a 700 and in fourth place was Dean College with 704.

Individually for CCRI they were led by tournament medalist Steven Letterle (Cranston) who shot a 79 and 77 for a two-day total of 156.  The other CCRI second-day two scores were an 84 from captain Zach Sullivan (Cumberland), who dropped 20 strokes from his first day score, Chris Lussier’s (Cranston) 87, and captain Gina Bartolotta’s 90. Rounding out the Knights on the leaderboard was Rob Gallucci (Coventry) who shot a 94, but his score was not used for the team total for the second day.

“This was an overall team effort everybody dropped their scores,” said CCRI head coach Jim Stringfellow. “Zach Sullivan was huge today dropping 20 strokes form his day one score, Chris Lussier played very well, and so did our medalist Steven Letterle, who was spectacular for the entire tournament.  It was a complete team effort, which I think is fantastic.”

The top five golfers in the tournament earned All-Region XXI honors, with Letterle being the only CCRI representative.
