Two members of the CCRI Track and field team competed at the NJCAA Division I Track and field National championships held at Mesa community College in Mesa, Arizona – Haley Beausoleil (Plainfield, Conn,) in the javelin and Shenelle Teixeira (Barrington) in the 400 hurdles.

On Thursday, Beausoleil finished 14th with a best throw of 33.71 meters, which she did on her first throw. She also had throws of 32.8 meters and 32.29 meters. Winning the event was Sharon Toako of North Iowa Area Community College with a throw of 42.33 meters.

On Friday, Teixeira placed 26th at the championships with a solid effort of 1:08.10.

“Both Shenelle Teixeira and Haley Beausoleil put forth consistent performances like they had all season long,” said CCRI head coach Gregg Cornell. “Haley and Shenelle are only freshmen and walked away from their national meet experience with big goals for their 2014-2015 track and field seasons. Both ladies represented the Community College of Rhode Island with great sportsmanship. I look forward to having a chance to coach them once again next year.”

Winning the NJCAA Division I National Championship for both the men and the women was South Plains College from Levelland, Texas, which scored 162 points in the women’s events and 148 points in the men’s events.
