The CCRI women’s soccer team hosted the Knights from the Community College of Baltimore County-Essex yesterday at the Lincoln soccer complex. The Lady Knights defeated Essex 4-0 for their third straight victory, improving their overall season record to 9-6-1. In addition, the Lady Knights celebrated their fourth annual Pink Out to raise awareness for Cancer.

Twenty minutes later in the 32nd minute, CCRI was awarded a corner kick. Sophomore captain Betti Worth (Manchester, England) headed the ball into the Essex net off a corner kick on a perfect pass from Perez for her a second assist of the half, giving CCRI a 2-0 halftime advantage.

In the second half, CCRI continued to dominate Essex, putting a lot of pressure on their defensive corps and putting many shots on goal. In the 15th minute of the half, Oram found the net again on a nice double assist play from sophomore defender Taylor Lopes (Cumberland) and Perez, who registered her third assist on the afternoon.

In the 27th minute of the half, sophomore midfielder Jennifer Kittila (Warwick) scored an unassisted goal as she came off of the right side of the Essex goal and lofted a perfectly placed shot in the upper right hand corner of the goal.

Goalkeeper Alex Place (East Greenwich) recorded her fifth shutout victory of the season.

“Our team was solid defensively today and our midfielders and forward really controlled the game today,” head coach Dennis Grassini said. “ This was a good all-around effort by our team this afternoon and hopefully we are peaking at the right time with the playoffs just around the corner.”

Sophomore day was scheduled for Wednesday against Dan College, with the results unavailable at press time. CCRI’s eight sophomores are Jess Hammond (Warwick), Kittila, Lopes, Oram, Place, Missy Richards (Coventry), Erin Rodriguez (Tiverton) and Worth.
