After qualifying for the ACHA Women’s Division National Championships two weeks ago when it captured the Eastern Collegiate Women’s League Championship, the URI women’s hockey team put together another strong showing on the biggest stage.
The Lady Rams won their first game at nationals – which took place in Wooster, Ohio – with a 5-1 victory over Michigan last Thursday. URI then continued its strong play by tying the University of Massachusetts 1-1 later in the day.
On Friday, needing a win to advance in the tournament, the Lady Rams fell 2-0 to Robert Morris, ending their chances at the title.
Northeastern went on to win the national championship with a 3-1 victory over Minnesota in the title game on Sunday.
Three former Warwick girls’ hockey players – all of whom attended Toll Gate – were part of the URI roster. They are senior Danika Korpacz and sophomores Sydney Collins and Brianna Accetturo.
