Laurie Anne Bishop, age 80, of Warwick, Rhode Island, passed away on Friday June 26, 2015 after a battle with cancer.

Born in Central Falls, RI, she was the daughter of the late J. Benjamin and Flora (Wood) Bishop. For over forty years Laurie was the owner and operator of Snip-N-Curl Beauty Shop. Laurie was a member of the Norwood Baptist Church for over fifty years. She served her church in many roles: church school teacher and superintendent; member of the Deaconate, Mission, and Flower committees; and church historian. She was a member of the Norbakirk Bible Class and a volunteer at the Warwick Shelter from the time of its organization in 1986.

Fraternal orders of the Rainbow Girls and later the Eastern Star were a vital part of Laurie’s life. She began as a member of the Order of the Rainbow for Girls. She later served as Mother Advisor of Cranston Assembly No. 2 and was a recipient of Rainbow’s highest award, the Grand Cross of Color. She continued her connection to Rainbow as a member of Cranston Assembly No. 2 Rainbow Alumnae. Laurie’s association with the Easter Star continued with her many memberships and service to its fraternal orders. She served as Past Worthy Matron of the former Pawtuxet Chapter No. 16, now Signet No. 21. She was Past Grand Adah and Past Grand Representative to the Grand Jurisdictions of New Jersey, Maryland, and New Brunswick, Canada. Laurie also was Past Royal Matron of Harmony Court No. 1, Order of the Amaranth, and Past Worthy High Priestess of the Hope Shrine No. 1, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. She was elected honorary Eastern Star memberships in Queen Esther, Chapter No. 2 and Providence, Chapter No. 1. She also served as Past President of Ethan Place, the Eastern Star Home.

Laurie leaves her cousins in Connecticut; Bonnie and Jack Dunn of Southington and Scott, Stephanie, Jack, and Ava Dunn of Simsbury. They thank the wonderful staff at Elmhurst Extended Care who showed what caring for people, especially those who are nearing the end of their lives, should be but seldom is.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on July 17, 2015 in the Norwood Baptist Church, 48 Budlong Avenue, Warwick. Burial will be private. Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Laurie may make donations to the Norwood Baptist Church Memorial Fund or to the Eastern Star Foundation of RI for its educational scholarship program care of Kathryn Newman, 65 Ethan Street, Warwick, Rhode Island 02888.
