The League of Women Voters of Rhode Island will hold its annual League Day at the Rhode Island State House on Thursday, April 12 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Rhode Island's First Lady Stephanie Chafee will speak about “Hunger in Rhode Island.” There will also be a League Advocacy update, tours of the State House and visits to the legislative sessions.
Registration in the Governor's Reception Room begins at 3:30, followed by tours and legislative sessions until 4:45, at which time will be the League Advocacy update, and Stephanie Chafee will speak at 5:30, with a question and answer period to follow.
Chafee, a Registered Nurse and Rhode Island native, was one of the first nurses to work exclusively with HIV/AIDS patients and helped found the Rhode Island Free Clinic in South Providence. She is a co-founder of Women Ending Hunger, which strives to improve access to government and food bank nutrition services and educate the public on nutrition awareness.
Refreshments, including hors d'oeuvres, sweets and beverages will be available from the opening of the program. Donations will be collected at the event for local food banks. Bring peanut butter, jelly, cereals, pasta sauce and similar items.
