Lester Melvin Thurston

Lester Melvin Thurston, 64, of Manchester, beloved husband of Elizabeth (Marchetti) Thurston, died peacefully January 31, 2013 at his home with his family at his side.

He was born December 29, 1948 in Bangor, Maine, son of Hope (Smith) Thurston of Ellington and the late Melvin Lester Thurston and moved to Manchester in 1962. Lester was a 1967 Graduate of Manchester High School and was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He attended the Salvation Army Citadel in Manchester. Upon his discharge he went back into the auto parts business where he worked and ran stores for many years. He later went into marine and industrial parts at DiPietro-Kay in Rocky Hill for twenty years and then moved on to Capital Equipment and Marine in Manchester where he spent another 20 years. He then moved on to Ray Seraphin Ford in Rockville where he had to stop working in the summer of 2010 because of his health. Lester was a member of Carbs of Hartford Car Club. He did many car cruises, swap meets and was Past President of the car club until his illness. He enjoyed life in whatever he did, he liked seeing his grandchildren and loved the short time he had with his wife.

In addition to his loving wife and mother; he is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Molitor and her husband, Vince of Sicklerville, New Jersey, his step-son Michael R. D’Eletto Jr. and his wife, Stacey of Warwick, Rhode Island; four grandchildren, Joshua and Gianna Molitor and Kyla & Ava D’Eletto; five sisters, Edythe Harrelson of Marysville, California, Luvera Girardin and her husband, Normand of South Windsor, Katrina Thurston-Bradford of Hesperia, Calif., Sandra Fleener and her husband, Mark of Sacramento, Calif., Marcia Williams Rohrbach and her husband, John of Longview, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his wife’s brother, James R. Marchetti and his wife, Maureen of Braintree, Vermont, and two sisters, Patricia Lees of Warwick, RI, and Jo-Ann Savage and her husband, William also of Warwick, RI.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday February 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Salvation Army Citadel, 661 Main St., Manchester, Connecticot. Burial will be in the Connecticut State Veterans’ Cemetery in Middletown. Calling hours will be held Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester.
