Library skit gets kids into summer reading

Posted

The Warwick Public Library has kicked off their summer reading program by visiting grade schools and encouraging summer reading for kids.

Ellen O’Brien, head of the Children’s Library, and Adult Programming Librarian Wil Gregersen are visiting grade schools to educate and promote their reading programs to students. They have created an act where as long as Gregersen, who plays a mad scientist, listens to O’Brien speak about the summer program, he can then show the kids his newest experiment.

Their next visit is Wednesday, June 4 at the Park School beginning the day with kindergarteners through third grade at 9 a.m. and finishing with fourth through sixth grade at 9:30 a.m.

They will also be visiting the John Wickes School and John Brown Francis Elementary on Thursday, June 5, the Holliman School on June 9, and the Hoxsie Elementary School on June 10.

Continuing promoting summer reading, the library will host their kick-off party, where there will be an international Star Wars reenactment organization visiting along with Ryder Windham, a Star Wars author, on Saturday, June 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Summer Reading Program gives kids prizes for keeping track of the books they’ve read and telling the group about them. The program will begin the day of the party and last until August 23. The program accepts children as young as 2-years-old to adults.

On that same day, a blood mobile will be stationed in the library’s parking lot for World Blood Day accepting donations.
