The Warwick Public Library Board of Trustees is inviting the community to a 50th birthday party Saturday, Sept. 26, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. And in keeping with the event, the library has planned a look back at 1965, the year the city built the citywide library as well as some good fun.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., pizza and Yacht Club soda will be served. Visitors will have the chance to see 1965 automobiles and a vintage fire truck. Family portraits will be taken in the 50th anniversary photo booth and children can make a birthday bookmark in the Children’s Library
At 11:30 a.m., the Cat in the Hat visits the Children’s Library for a 1965 storytime.
At noon, Warwick historian Henry Brown reminisces about the library’s past.
Mayor Scott Avedisian hosts a cake cutting and reception at 1 p.m. Specially invited guests will include Warwick’s mayors from 1965 to the present and the members of the City Council.
At 2 p.m., Michael Goddard performs a concert of sea shanties or sailing work songs on tenor banjo, bodhran, and tin whistle. Michael’s show is sponsored by Rhode Island Sea Grant.
