The Warwick Public Library Board of Trustees is inviting the community to a 50th birthday party Saturday, Sept. 26, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. And in keeping with the event, the library has planned a look back at 1965, the year the city built the citywide library as well as some good fun.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., pizza and Yacht Club soda will be served. Visitors will have the chance to see 1965 automobiles and a vintage fire truck. Family portraits will be taken in the 50th anniversary photo booth and children can make a birthday bookmark in the Children’s Library

At 11:30 a.m., the Cat in the Hat visits the Children’s Library for a 1965 storytime.

At noon, Warwick historian Henry Brown reminisces about the library’s past.

Mayor Scott Avedisian hosts a cake cutting and reception at 1 p.m. Specially invited guests will include Warwick’s mayors from 1965 to the present and the members of the City Council.

At 2 p.m., Michael Goddard performs a concert of sea shanties or sailing work songs on tenor banjo, bodhran, and tin whistle. Michael’s show is sponsored by Rhode Island Sea Grant.

Register online at warwicklibrary.org or call 739-5440, x4. For more information, call 739-5440, x221. The library is located at 600 Sandy Lane.

This event is free and open to all.
