Linda Holland Washington
Linda Holland Washington, 62, died March 9, 2012 at 10:30 p.m. after a short stay in the hospital. Linda is survived by her husband of 41 years, Gary Washington.
She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., the youngest of three children of the late Timothy Holland and Shirley Shelton Holland. Linda graduated from New Rochelle High School in 1967 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in history from Barrington College in 1971. Later, Linda went on to obtain a degree in elementary education from Rhode Island College in 1987 and then further went on to receive a Master’s of Administration from Rhode Island College in 1995.
Linda worked at MetLife for eight years as a claims adjuster. She taught second grade for 11 years in the Pawtucket School Department and later became an elementary school principal.
Besides her husband she is survived by her children, Jason Washington and his wife, Billylyn, of North Providence, Gabrielle Silva and her husband, Greg, of Cranston, Aaron Washington and his wife, Alison, of North Providence, Bryon Washington of North Providence and Zoe Washington of Warwick. Linda will also be missed by her seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Linda has leaves a sibling, Jae Holland Wilkins of East Orange, N.J., and was the sister of the late Albert Joseph Holland.
Her funeral service will be held March 14 at 11 a.m. in Olney Street Baptist Church, 100 Olney St., Providence, with viewing from 10-11 a.m. Burial will be in Seekonk Cemetery. Calling hours will also be held March 13 from 6-8 p.m. in Olney Street Baptist Church. Arrangements made by Perry-McStay Funeral Home.
