Literacy Volunteers of Kent County (LVKC) will celebrate 35 years of service to Kent County at a gala event April 30 at the Warwick Museum of Art in Apponaug. The event will take place from 6 to 9 p.m., tickets are $35, and is being sponsored by Walgreen’s of Coventry.

Rhode Island’s very own champion of all things literary, Robin Kall of Reading With Robin, will be the guest of honor. The evening includes beverages, hors d’oeuvres, and a silent auction. More than 35 items will be auctioned, ranging from hand-carved cribbage boards and dog grooming/boarding services to a Swarovski ring and a Sakonnet Vineyards wine tasting. Many generous donors are the key to the LVKC success and make it possible for it to continue to match trained tutors with students needing help in reading, writing and speaking English. For tickets and information, contact LVKC at 822-9103 or email lvkc@coventrylibrary.org.

Literacy Volunteers of Kent County, Inc., is an accredited non-profit affiliate of ProLiteracy, Inc. with 501(c)3 status. The group trains volunteers to tutor adults whose limited English literacy skills prevent them from functioning effectively in their homes, workplaces, communities, or as citizens of the United States. Tutoring by volunteers is free of charge, is confidential, and is typically done on a one-to-one basis. LVKC does not discriminate on the basis of gender, age, race, color, religion, national origin, disability, political beliefs, or marital or familial status.
