Literacy Volunteers of Kent County (LVKC) is offering “Start Here!”, a free ESOL [English for Speakers of Other Languages] Group Conversation Class designed to primarily serve adults, 18 or older, who wish to learn English and/or supplement their one-to-one tutoring.

This conversational program helps students maximize English speaking skills, is free to participants and will be offered at two locations. The East Greenwich class will start on April 22, at the East Greenwich Free Library at 82 Peirce Street. The class will be offered on Mondays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and run for 10 weeks. The other class takes place at the Coventry Public Library at 1672 Flat River Road in Coventry.

It starts April 25. This class is on Thursdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Class size is limited to 10. Students’ language levels are assessed by LVKC after which they may be assigned to smaller groups to learn new vocabulary, practice conversation and work on limited special projects.

In addition, the program encourages library use. Students in the program receive help applying for library cards and guidance exploring the library’s programs and services. The program is led by certified LVKC tutors who receive preparation, lesson plans, materials and tutoring guidance from the program staff. For more information or to register, call 822-9103 or e-mail lvkc@coventrylibrary.org.
