Live performance double feature at Oakland Beach May 31

Oakland Beach Elementary School is delighted to invite the public to its fantastic 2012 end of year performance on Thursday, May 31 at 7 p.m. Please join us as students treat family, friends and neighbors to an evening of performances devised around academic content in English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Positive Behavioral Intervention Strategies (PBIS).

Fifth graders spent the semester writing original “episodes” of the classic TV comedy “The Addams Family.” Students even rewrote the iconic theme song to suit the content of each new episode. The latest antics of Morticia, Gomez, Thing and the rest of the gang will transport you back to 1964 in glorious black and white. Watch as “The Addams Family Gets Burgled,” “Pugsley Goes to the Psychiatrist,” “The Addams Family Enters a Healthy Bake Off,” and young Wednesday experiences “The Best Birthday Ever.” Marvel at our students’ writing skills as you admire their fabulous scenery designed in Charles Addams’ signature style. Audience members are encouraged to dress as their favorite Addams Family character.

Sixth graders created the second half of our double feature, a colorful grand scale interpretation of Japanese folktale “The Stonecutter.” Tasaku, a humble stonecutter, begins to crave power and The Spirit of the Mountain grants his wishes – but will Tasaku get what he really wants? A true spectacle, “The Stonecutter”features original music, visual art and choreography by students with narration by James Wilde.

Arts integrated curriculum programs at Oakland Beach are sponsored by RI State Council on the Arts, VSA Arts RI, Providence Performing Arts Center/Arts Reach and the Rhode Island Foundation. Oakland Beach Elementary School serves pre-Kindergarten through 6th grade students in the Warwick Public School system.

The double feature performance will be held on Thursday, May 31 7 p.m. at Oakland Beach School, 383 Oakland Beach Avenue, Warwick. The show is free to the public, but donations will be accepted. All proceeds benefit the continuation of arts integrated curriculum projects at Oakland Beach Elementary School.
