Local man arrested after causing a scene at Bank of America

Posted

Cheolmin Heo, 35, of Warwick was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct shortly after causing a scene in the lobby of the Bank of America at 50 West Shore Road on the morning of May 6.

According to witness statements given to police by two bank employees, Heo entered the bank around 10 a.m. and attempted to make a withdrawal. The bank manager indicated to the teller who was waiting on Heo at the time that she was not authorized to do the transaction because Heo’s name was not on the account.

According to reports, Heo became upset and agitated due to the delay and began to raise his voice. The bank manager then approached him in an attempt to talk to him and calm him down, which worked briefly, but after a few moments he began to raise his voice again.

The bank manager told police as she attempted to calm Heo down, she saw him use his phone to speak to his wife, after which he got up and started staring at her, which made her very nervous. Heo then told her she needed to fix the issue and he was blaming her for the incident. The manager said she advised Heo to have his wife come into the bank to handle the transaction. At that time, she said Heo got into her face, again blaming her, and said he was going to come back into the bank and shoot her because this was all her fault. She said he began staring at her again and then left the building.

A short time later, both employees observed Heo re-enter the building and ask why he could not do the transaction. According to the bank teller’s statement, it was at this time Warwick Police were contacted by Bank of America’s security, which had been in contact with the employees during the incident.

The bank teller said she feared for her life when Heo returned because she did not know his intentions.

The manager advised Heo she could not conduct the transaction without his wife. At that point, his wife called in and spoke to the manager, who explained to Heo’s wife why she needed to come in. After a couple minutes, she said she went back into the lobby and Heo was still there staring at her. She again indicated she could not assist him and Heo yelled at the manager, said it was her fault and he did not like it, according to reports. He again stared at her and then left the building.

Police said Heo left in a blue Infinite bearing R.I. registration. The vehicle was located on Airport Road a short time later by Officer John Madden, who took Heo into custody.

After speaking with both bank employees, police determined Heo would be arrested and charged with one count of disorderly conduct. He was also given a trespassing order not to return to the bank at 50 West Shore Rd.

Further, the bank would make arrangements to close the accounts and forward all appropriate documents to Heo.

"Causing a scene" is an understatement- how about disorderly conduct, communicating threats, menacing, bordering on assault for invading her space...

Sounds like Mr. Heo should try decaf, or anger management therapy; perhaps he was just "tired and emotional"...

His previous behavior at the bank, if normal, may indicate that there are other issues in this man's life and this was just the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back.
