Local musicians in tune for 2 ‘Love is in the Air’ performances

Some of Rhode Island’s top musicians will perform a special Broadway-inspired concert this Valentine’s Day. “Love Is in the Air” will be an exciting concert featuring Michael DiMucci, Phoebe Madden, Ritchee Price and David Marshall performing popular Broadway love songs with a twist of jazz.

The four-highlighted performers have diverse backgrounds and training ranging from opera to jazz, bringing a new and fresh sound to Broadway’s most popular and newest love songs.

A native of New Jersey, tenor singer DiMucci made a name for himself as a member of the Rhode Island Philharmonic, swing and jazz bands including Avenue A from Lincoln, and as a member of the Opera Workshop of University of Rhode Island. He has also served as choirmaster and organist at Lime Rock Baptist Church and as tenor soloist and cantor at St. Mary’s Church in Bristol.

Broadway-trained, Madden has performed extensively throughout the region and still performs throughout Rhode Island. In addition to owning a vocal training studio, the Warwick native has also recorded two albums.

Trumpet player Ritchee Price has played a variety of musical styles from Big Band to marching band. He has performed in the White House, Radio City Music Hall and Carnegie Hall, as well as in countries such as France, Amsterdam, Japan, South Africa and Sweden.

Marshall is an accomplished alto saxophone player, as well as keyboardist and musical director. Accompanying these artists on piano will be Philip Martorella.

Performing alongside the professionals will five talented young women, including Toll Gate High School seniors, Rose Kaczmarek and Kathleen Morlock. The other young vocalists are Exeter-West Greenwich High School seniors Alexandra Fortin and Michelle Houle, and East Greenwich High School and Tufts University graduate Rachael O’Donnelly. All five have trained for over seven years with Madden.

It is a rare and exciting opportunity to have accomplished students share the stage with the likes of Price, Madden and others. However, in addition to being top performers in the state for what they do, all of the musicians of “Love Is in the Air” also teach. Therefore, incorporating these young people in this show showcases a common purpose among these excellent musicians to pass on what they know and love to the next generation.

“Love Is in the Air” will be performed twice. The first performance is at The Towers in Narragansett on Friday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be found online at www.thetowersri.com or by calling 782-2597. The second performance will be on Valentine’s Day, Friday, Feb. 14, at 8 p.m. at the Greenwich Odeum in East Greenwich. Tickets can be purchased at www.theodeum.org or by calling 885-4000.
