Louise (Assogna) Mondillo, 105, passed away with loving family at her side, on April 25, 2016.

Louise was born January 13, 1911, in Providence, RI, and lived most of her life in Warwick. She was the wife of the late Angelo Mondillo. A 1929 graduate of Commercial High School, she was school secretary at Esek Hopkins Junior High School in Providence from 1929 to 1941 and secretary at Stran-Steel during the building of Quonset huts for World War II. She later served as assistant to the librarian at both Warwick and Pilgrim High Schools from 1960 to 1973. Her volunteer positions included president of the Randall Holden PTA from 1955 to 1956, president of the 50 Club senior-citizen group, member of the St Benedict’s Circle Daughters of Isabella, and member of the first St Timothy’s Women’s Club. In 1978 and 1979, Louise was elected to represent the 4th Ward in Warwick as a council person on Senior Government Days. Louise loved the Arts. In her early years, she performed in community plays and musicals, first as a member of the Federal Hill House Guild Players and then with Providence Faculty Players. She directed a one-act play, “The Wedding Present,” for the Brigham Alumni Association in 1938, and had a leading role in Gilbert and Sullivan’s operetta, “H.M.S. Pinafore,” presented by the Esek Hopkins School faculty and staff. In her later years, Louise was an avid reader of both fiction and non-fiction and a devoted Red Sox fan.

She is survived by a daughter, Ina, of Warwick, and three sons, Robert (Carol) of Delaware, Ohio; Richard (Jaime) of Tacoma WA; and Ronald (Cathy) of East Greenwich; along with seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Her visitation will be held Friday, May 6, 2016 from 8-9:30 a.m. in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Timothy Church, Warwick Ave. at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
