(Teen sci-fi sequel)

“Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials” picks up where the original left off. The world has pretty much been destroyed, but Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) and his gang of teenagers are still trying to save what is left of it.

We catch up with them escaping from the Glade’s maze and being “rescued” by Mr. Janssen (Aiden Gillen) and his group of scientists who have their own motives and experimental methods to save the world.

Thomas quickly figures out that they are being used and leads the gang of seven in an exciting breakout, crossing The Scorch, a desolate, sandy, barren wasteland that eventually leads them to a city in rubbles. Pretty good sci-fi up to this point, completely ruined by the appearance of zombies who chase after them for the rest of the movie.

They finally make it to a mountainous sanctuary, where they team up with the few remaining good guys. All adults up to this point have been evil.

But wait a minute. One of Thomas’ trusted friends has betrayed them and the evil Mr. Janssen attacks them by air, leading to a long battle where lots of people are killed and many taken off to be experimented on.

What will happen?

I don’t know, but the last words uttered to Thomas are, “Do you have a plan?” Stay tuned for another sequel.

Rated PG-13, with just enough violence and profanity to keep it under an R.
