Mail ballots don’t alter outcome of local primaries

The mail ballots have been counted and the results of last Tuesday’s primary have not changed, although the totals have.

Incumbent Ward 2 Councilman Thomas Chadronet, who led Michael Zarum by 23 votes when polls closed, will serve another term as he does not face a Republican or independent candidate in the General Election. Of the 25 mail ballots, Chadronet picked up 16 and Zarum 9 for a final count of 468 to 438, respectively.

In the Ward 7 race for the Democratic nomination, challenger Kathleen Usler gained 21 mail votes to incumbent Charles Donovan’s 13 giving her a total of 645 to Donovan’s 544. As she is now the only candidate for Ward 7 on the November ballot, she will become the new council member after the first of the new year.

In the Republican primary, incumbent Scott Avedisian won a total of 3,200 votes as the party’s nominee to 1,658 for Stacia Petri. Avedisian will face Democrat John “Jack” Kirby and independent Kevin Eisemann in the General Election.

And while she withdrew her candidacy prior to the primary, Carel Callahan Bainum, who declared as a Democrat for mayor, still appeared on the ballot. She garnered 2,592 votes to Kirby’s 4,579 or 36 percent of the vote.

In the Republican primary for Ward 3 John Falkowski received 232 votes to 130 for Henry Williams Jr.
