About 40 mostly Spanish speaking people rallied in the rotunda and hallways of the State House Friday in an appeal to the governor not to honor U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions denying detainees due process. According to the Rev. Don Anderson, executive minister of the Rhode Island State Council of Churches, the state would not hold someone without probable cause. Anderson and four others met with the governor. Anderson said Gov. Chafee was open to the request made by Olneyville Neighborhood Association, “but there was no decision at this point.”
