Last Wednesday, the Kent County Grand Jury reported out an indictment charging Tony Gonzalez, 25, of 48 June St. in Providence, with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a Warwick man earlier this year.
Police said Gonzalez was feuding with the victim’s friend and went to the Nausauket Road address to confront him, which precipitated the shooting.
Gonzalez is also charged with one count each of assault with intent to commit murder; discharge of a firearm while committing a crime of violence; discharge of a firearm with committing a crime of violence; and assault with intent to commit murder.
Police said Gonzalez shot and killed Carl Cunningham Jr. at a Nausauket Road address on Jan. 22 of this year. Gonzalez is also charged with assaulting a second man, Matthew Chivers, with the intent to murder him in the same incident.
Gonzalez has been held without bail since his arrest on Jan. 23. He is scheduled for arraignment in Kent County Superior Court on June 8.
