Warwick Police arrested David Florio, 34, of Irma Avenue in Warwick on March 9 on felony assault charges and then subsequently charged him with cultivating marijuana.
The investigation began early the week before, after a fight at the Sports Legends Pub located on West Shore Road in Warwick. Police believe that Florio was responsible for the assault of another patron of the bar, using a pool cue as a weapon. The victim in the assault sustained severe head and facial injuries.
As a result of a weeklong investigation, which included video surveillance review and numerous witness interviews, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Florio. On March 9, police arrested Florio. On Sunday, detectives obtained a search warrant for Florio’s home in Warwick, seeking the pool cue used in the assault. During the execution of that warrant, a marijuana grow operation was located at his home. Detectives seized 48 marijuana plants ranging in size from juvenile to mature. Based on the discovery of the drugs, Florio was additionally charged with manufacturing marijuana.
