The weather report predicts that temperatures will barely reach 20 degrees this week, and it looks as though we are in for continued frigid wintery weather for weeks to come. One of the worst casualties of these biting cold temperatures is frozen pipes, and all the inherent flooding problems that come when they burst. Just ask Master Plumber Mike Manning of Manning Plumbing. He has seen the fallout from such burst pipes one time too many, and has some words of advice for his customers.

First and foremost, Manning urges homeowners to keep an eye on poorly heated water pipe areas, especially where they back up against an outside wall or are in a place such as a garage washroom that only gets used in warmer weather. He advises clients to turn off the water at the shut-off valve where it is not needed or where it is exposed to these extreme cold temperatures ~ this includes outside water spigots which can be turned off from the inside of your home. Furthermore, if your heating system should go down for any reason, be sure to open your faucets to a slow drip. This will guard against freezing until help arrives. Manning even suggests insulating your pipes with inexpensive foam insulation (available at most hardware stores) as another preventative measure. Finally, keep the number of Manning Plumbing in your speed dial. Mike Manning is ready for your call.
