March 2 presentation to honor civic work of Jeff Gofton

Posted

The Rhode Island Family Shelter will remember Jeff Gofton next week with a plaque presentation at the shelter on Beach Avenue in Conimicut.

Gofton, who lived in Warwick for more than 60 years and had been extremely active throughout the community, died late last year.

On top of working for the state for 34 years, ending his career as Chief of Municipal Affairs, Gofton was president of the shelter board of directors at the time of his passing.

Similarly, he was treasurer of the Lockwood at Warwick Condominium Association and had previously served as president of the Apponaug Improvement Association and chairman of the Warwick Democratic City Committee.

The plaque recognizes Gofton not only for all his work with the family shelter but all his charitable acts throughout the community.

Pegee Malcolm said in an email, “Jeff always felt that if you give the less fortunate a hand up they could get the extra boost that they need and continue to improve.”

Malcolm said Gofton’s favorite job of all however was that as a proud grandfather to Morgan, Jake and Meredith Lamphier.

The ceremony will be on March 2 at 8 p.m. at the Rhode Island Family Shelter. Jeff’s Family and friends will be in attendance for the ceremony when the shelter presents the memorial plaque.
