Rhode Island Secretary of State Nellie M. Gorbea is reminding businesses that the deadline for filing 2015 annual reports for all business corporations is Tuesday, March 31 at 4:30 p.m. Business corporations that remit a 2015 annual report after March 31 will be assessed a $25 late filing penalty fee.

Business corporations can file their annual report online at the Department of State’s website at www.sos.ri.gov. Business owners may also file via mail or in person at the Department of State’s Division of Business Services, located at 148 West River Street in Providence.

More than 31,000 business corporations conducting business in Rhode Island are required by law to file annual reports with the Department of State. Failure to file an annual report can result in fines and the revocation of a company’s Certificate of Incorporation or Certificate of Authority. These certificates provide companies with the legal basis for conducting a variety of business-related activities in Rhode Island.

Whether you are a new entrepreneur or an established business, Department of State can help you by providing information that is efficient, strategic and relevant to your needs. For more information on how the Department of State can help Rhode Island businesses start and thrive, visit www.sos.ri.
