Margaret J. Caldwell

Margaret J. Caldwell, 90, died Friday, November 21, 2014 at home. She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond S. Caldwell.

Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Patrick J. and Sarah V. (Lafferty) McKay. A graduate of Classical High School, Providence, she furthered her education at the University of Rhode Island from where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English, a Master’s Degree in English and a Master’s Degree in Library Science. She worked for many years in various branches of the State Library System before serving as Librarian at the University of Rhode Island for more than 20 years before her retirement. She was a member of the Rhode Island Library Association, the Warwick Library Book Club and the Jane Austen Society. She enjoyed cooking and gardening and was an avid book collector.

Margaret is survived by her two daughters: Connie Phillips of Warwick and Nancy Caldwell & her husband. Peter Kingman of East Greenwich and her daughter-in-law Jane Caldwell of Jamestown. She was a loving “Gramma” of her eight grandchildren: Jennifer Flaherty, Amanda Phillips, Daniel & Jeffrey Kingman, Emily Street, Matthew Caldwell, Sarah Edwards and Meghan Caldwell; and her four great-grandchildren: Alexis Caldwell, Benjamin & William Edwards and Hadley Margaret Street. She was the mother of the late Charles S. Caldwell.

As per her wishes, calling hours are respectfully omitted and burial will be private.
