Maria Ines Paiva

Maria Ines "Agnes" (Moniz) Paiva, 81, of Taft Street, Cranston, entered into eternal peace November 9, 2011. She sustained injuries when struck by a vehicle as she left church on Oct. 17. She was the wife of the late Alfred Paiva.
Born in Ponta Garca, St. Michael, Azores, a daughter of the late Herminio and Rosalina (Guerreiro) Moniz dePiedade, she lived in East Providence before moving to Cranston 40 years ago. Mrs. Paiva was employed at Davol Rubber Co. in Providence for 27 years, retiring in 1992.
In Portugal, she was a catechist and dressmaker. She proudly became a U.S. citizen in 1982. She enjoyed gardening, walking and attending Mass. She made the best homemade sweet rice pudding. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Gloria M. Martin and her husband, Paul, of Cranston; three grandchildren, Kevin, Julie and Stephanie Martin, who were the loves of her life; three brothers, Gilberto dePiedade and Jose Maria Moniz, both of Fall River, Mass., and Antonio E. Moniz of Hilmar, Calif.; two sisters, Maria Luisa de Sousa of Oakville, Ontario, Canada and Julieta Silva of Fall River. She was the sister of the late Armando dePiedade and Connie Costa.
Her funeral was held Nov. 14 from Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Ave., Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Paul Church, One St. Paul Place, Cranston. Burial was in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
