Marquee victory

After six straight league losses - and eight straight overall - the Toll Gate hockey team was in desperate need of something positive to help it get back on track before the season comes to a close.

The Titans found it on on Saturday.

Playing third-place Cumberland, Toll Gate fell behind 1-0 only to score four unanswered goals and pick up a crucial 4-1 victory.

The win improved the Titans to 5-11-1, and with 12 points they are in fifth place in Division II-North. The Clippers have been near the top of the division all-season long, and they dropped to 10-4-2.

Toll Gate was out-shot 48 to 25 in the game, but got a dominant performance in net from goalie Josh Giarrantano.

Giarrantano made 47 saves, and he kept the Clippers out of the goal for the final two periods of the game.

Steven Matthews led the Toll Gate offense, as he tallied two second-period goals while adding an assist.

The Titans also got goals from Casey Correia and Kevin Vittum, while Vittum assisted on a goal as well. Kyle Ellis had two assists, while Dan Holmes also had one.
