Martha Chobanian

Martha Chobanian, 94, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2013. She was the wife of the late Hovakim “Jacob” Chobanian.

Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Hagop and Agnes (Mugderchian) Zorabedian. She has resided in Warwick since 1927. Mrs. Chobanian was employed as a payroll supervisor for the Department of the Navy at Quonset Point and Davisville for 30 years, retiring in 1974. Martha was a world traveler. She was an exemplary seamstress, enjoyed oil painting, and was an avid gardener. She will always be remembered for her quick wit, devotion to her family, and tireless work ethic. Martha took great pride in her Armenian heritage, and enjoyed sharing stories and traditions with her family

She was the aunt of the late Maureen Lamantia. Beloved great-aunt of Lisa Dowaliby and her husband, Ray, and Jay Lamantia and his wife, Michelle. She was the stepmother of Stephen A. Chobanian and the late Mark Chobanian; sister of Elizabeth Florence Maio, Betty Lou Rawlinson, John Zorabedian, the late George Zorabedian and Gloria Jarett. She is also survived by three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to family, she also leaves behind her wonderful caregiver, Bobbie Jo Hester; and her beloved dog, Annie.

A visitation will be held Monday, December 23, 2013 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Kevin Church, Sandy Lane. Burial will be in North Burial Ground, Providence.
