Mary Ann Barajas and Missy Fiorentino have announced their engagement.

Mary Ann is the daughter of Gregorio and Mary Avila of San Angelo, Texas. She is a graduate of San Angelo Central High School and New England College of Business. She is employed by Coastway Community Bank as a customer service representative.

Missy is the daughter of Patrick and Shirley Ouellette of Cranston. She is a graduate of Cranston High School West and Roger Williams University. She is employed by the State of Rhode Island Sheriff’s Department in Providence.

The couple met six years ago online through a mutual boxing friend. Missy is a retired three-time world champion boxer. Missy proposed on Oct. 13, 2013 in Salem, Mass. After spending a long day walking around and site-seeing, Missy asked Mary Ann to walk one more time in the oldest cemetery in Salem called The Burying Point before leaving for the day. At this point it was dark and spooky, and Missy knew this was the perfect setting for her proposal. While walking the dark cemetery, Missy dropped a glowing red finger on the ground while Mary Ann was not looking and on it was a huge plastic diamond ring. When Mary Ann noticed this glowing red orb she went to pick it up and inspect it. Immediately, she was shocked to find a severed finger and threw it as far away from her as possible. Missy, knowing she would have this reaction, laughed and asked her to go pick it up again and see what was on the finger. Upon seeing the giant plastic diamond, Mary Ann turned around to find Missy on her knee and with a real ring this time. They are set to be married on October 11, 2015 at the Preserve at Boulder Hill in Richmond, R.I.
