Matthew L. Good, of Warwick, Rhode Island passed away peacefully on September 25, 2013.

He was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on October 7, 1924. Matt was called to serve his country in World War II in the United States Navy and fought in every major naval engagement in the South Pacific between 1942 and 1945 including Leyte Gulf, Tinian, Saipan, the Marianas and Guam. He was often decorated and, along with his shipmates, received a Presidential Citation for bravery in battle in the Pacific Theater. Like most of his brethren of The Greatest Generation, Matt returned home to restart his life after the war and rarely ever mentioned his sacrifice for his country.

Matt moved his family from his birthplace of Cambridge, Mass. to Warwick, in the mid-fifties after contracting polio in the great epidemic and settled down to a career and to raise his brood. Nothing was more important to Matt and Claire than their family. Birthdays, anniversaries, graduations and weddings were all merely fronts for Matt to have a family gathering. His career in the fine metals business spanned General Fittings and A.T. Cross until he established his own business, Good Associates, partnering with his son, Matthew. He was an inveterate Boston sports fan and was enormously proud, and relieved, that he witnessed two World Series victories by his beloved Red Sox and three Super Bowl victories by his much loved Patriots.

He is survived by his wife, Claire A. (Deveau) of exactly sixty-five years; sons Edward of Lake Placid, NY and Matthew of Warwick and daughters Mary Ellen of North Kingstown, Sharon Holland of Jamestown, Andrea Fournier of East Greenwich and Susan Lowney of South Dartmouth, Mass. Matt was blessed with eight grandchildren, Jeffrey, Kristin, Molly, Christopher, Robert, Jennifer, Emily, Matthew; and four great-grandchildren, Conor, Cayden, Caroline and Sam.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 1, at 8:45a.m. from The Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Rd., Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Timothy Church, 1799 Warwick Ave., Warwick, RI. Burial with Military Honors will be at Rhode Island Veterans’ Cemetery, Exeter, RI. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 7p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Matthew’s memory to; West Shore Health Center, 109 West Shore Rd, Warwick, RI 02889, would be deeply appreciated. For online expressions of sympathy, visit www.boyleandsonfuneralhome.com
