Mayor Scott Avedisian announced Wednesday that he has named Jane Jordan director of the city’s Personnel Department. Jordan had been serving in an interim capacity since the retirement of longtime director Oscar Shelton.
“Throughout her tenure with the city and, particularly, in the months she’s served as interim director, Jane has demonstrated a quiet leadership, an exceptional knowledge of policies and programs, and a fair and balanced approach to solving problems,” Avedisian said in a statement. “I am very pleased that Jane has accepted the position of director and thank her for her ongoing commitment to the city, our residents and employees.”
Jordan has worked for the city for 32 years, 30 of them in the Personnel Department. She was named deputy director in 2006, after serving as the human resources supervisor for five years. Jordan, Avedisian noted, earned an associate’s degree in business with honors from the Community College of Rhode Island while working full time and meeting the responsibilities of family and other commitments outside of work.
In addition to her professional experience and coursework, Jordan has also logged hundreds of hours in management development and computer courses and seminars.
