Mayor to highlight City Centre at tonight’s inaugural

Posted

Mayor Scott Avedisian will take the bus to tonight’s inaugural ceremonies beginning at 7 p.m. at the Ocean State Theatre, 1245 Jefferson Boulevard.

It’s not that the mayor lacks a ride, but rather that he’s looking to emphasize an element of his platform for his eighth term in office. Avedisian will be catching his ride with RIPTA just up the road at the Iron Works Tavern. The tavern and the adjoining Hilton Gardens Inn are near the apex of City Centre Warwick. Avedisian is expected to talk about developments at City Centre and his vision for the area that brings together highway, rail and air modes of transportation.

The Inaugural program features a prelude by the Pawtuxet Rangers, R.I.M. and the Pawtuxet Rangers Fife and Drum Corps and a procession of honor guards from the Rangers and the Warwick Fire and Police Departments and the Homenetmen Scouts of Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church.

Councilman Steven Colantuono will serve as master of ceremonies.

Council members taking the oath of office are: Steven Colantuono, Thomas Chadronet, Camille Vella-Wilkinson, Joseph Solomon, Edgar Ladouceur, Donna Travis, Kathleen Usler, Joseph Gallucci, and Steven Merolla.

Three School Committee members will be sworn in: Eugene A. Nadeau, Mary T. Medeiros and Bethany Furtado.

The public is invited to attend. While there is no charge for the event, attendees are asked to bring a canned good to benefit the Westbay Marketplace food pantry.
