McNally completes Coast Guard training

John R. McNally satisfactorily completed an eight-week course of recruit training for the U.S. Coast Guard of physical fitness and conditioning, swimming and basic seamanship, personal health and First Aid, and military training on Oct. 18, 2013. John graduated in June of 2013 from Warwick Veterans Memorial High School, where he received several awards, such as the 2013 Secretary of State Civic Leadership award, Male Athlete of the Year Award and the Hobey Baker Award. John also completed requirements that earned him Eagle Scout while in Boy Scouts in Troop 1284. While in Boy Scouts, John worked at Camp Yawgoo as a counselor for three years and successfully completed the State of Rhode Island Lifeguard certification test. He will take his experience and newfound knowledge and serve as a fireman on the USCGC MIDGETT, located in Seattle, Wash. A high endurance cutter multipurpose ship designed to meet the many and varied missions of today’s Coast Guard, her responsibilities include homeland security, search and rescue, maritime law enforcement and alien migrant interdiction operations while patrolling the Bering Sea, Gulf of Alaska and Central American waters.
