Meadowbrook Terrace shares togetherness at holiday feast
GENEROUS GROUP: Anthony Caparco, Bob Paquette, Barbara Lamanna and Linda Hagstrom entertained guests along with Joyce Fortunati and David Woisard. Not pictured are members Trish Amirault, Pauline Genest and friends Jean Maciag and Joan Ruggieiri.

Not only did nearly 50 tenants at Meadowbrook Terrace at 2220 Warwick Avenue gobble up a traditional Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday evening, they also feasted on the spirit of appreciation and togetherness.

For the fifth year in a row, members and friends of the Riverview Neighborhood Association served food including chicken soup, mashed potatoes, butternut squash, yams, stuffing, cranberry sauce and, of course, plenty of turkey.

“I like Thanksgiving so much because I believe in God,” said tenant Donna Kalges. “Without Him, you wouldn’t have a turkey.”

Another tenant, Justine Baker, agreed and said she enjoys turkey as well as stuffing. But she also said the event encourages people to associate and interact with others. “We’re all thankful to be here with one another,” she said. “Some of the women that live here are like my mothers and grandmothers. They watch over me and keep me in line. It’s a great thing and I feel happy.”

Theresa Gage, the president of the Meadowbrook Terrace Tenants Association, feels the same. She enjoyed the food as well as the fun.

“It’s a chance for everyone to gather,” she said.

Tenant Carol Barber also said her favorite thing about Thanksgiving is getting the opportunity to spend time with loved ones. She was grateful to the Riverview Neighborhood Association for lending their helping hands.

“They are fantastic,” Barber said. “The food is wonderful and the people are so nice. It couldn’t be any better.”

Representative Frank Ferri, as well as his partner Anthony Caparco, donated all the food, which they purchased from Luigi’s Gourmet Express in Johnston. While Ferri was unable to attend, as he was at the State House discussing pension reform, Caparco assisted with dinner.

“It’s the best feeling and it’s fun,” he said. “They are so appreciative.”

Tenant Virginia Waddington summed it up perfectly when she said, “We’re all thankful for what we have.”
