Meaning of some things has become misunderstood

To the Editor:
Regarding the interesting article by Harry Kane entitled “Progressive Dems establish Resist Hate coalition“ in last Thursday’s Beacon, I’d like to clear the waters about some of the language used by the coalition group.
Xenophobia is the fear, irrational or otherwise, of foreigners. The use of this word in the context of the immigration conversation is not correct. We humans are still, after thousands of years, a very tribal people. Suspicions based on race, color, religion, whether founded or unfounded, are part of our natural instinct. But, that again, is not what we are talking about when we address the immigration subject.
Most rational people believe that legal immigration is good. It has always been good. How many of us didn’t have grandparents or great-grandparents coming from other countries and looking for a new life a century or more ago? Not many. Our forebears came here looking for the same things modern legal immigrants are looking for: opportunity, happiness, prosperity and a new life. But there are also many who are not interested in becoming part of the great American mix. They appear to have no regard for borders, national sovereignty, law and order, and a legal path to citizenship and would prefer, rather, to live in the shadows of society as little more than squatters. Yes, these are very explosive statements, but ones that should be confronted and discussed in a civilized, informed way.
So xenophobia is not a fear of immigration and should not be conflated to mean it is. Illegal immigration is something quite different.
Now, as far as I know, women have always had the natural right to bear children. But the problem arises when we talk about reproductive rights, which in reality do not refer to anything about the right to reproduce but, rather, the right to terminate a pregnancy. I’ve always thought it odd that when a woman and her unborn child are both killed in a traffic accident, it’s called a double homicide, but when the same woman would have her pregnancy terminated in an abortion clinic, it’s not murder.
By and large this is a profoundly philosophical dilemma. It should not be a question of rights versus law versus legislation versus punishment. The real question should be, what is the value of new life in the human family? I leave it to the reader to answer it.
I have no political passions for, or interest in, any party. I simply wanted to state that the meaning of some things has become misunderstood for lack of proper, open and civil discussion.

    Jim,

They don't care about civility. They make up words and call people names to stifle debate. Homophobic, xenophobic, etc. They are practitioners of Saul Alinsky. Demean the person who would argue with you to shut them up.

You are so right. The left calls Conservatives names for which they usually are guilty - i.e. Racism. They don't do anything about blacks killing blacks in Chicago or other cities because they don't care. It's strictly the Saul Alinsky handbook, which people don't know was dedicated to Lucifer . Now the bad words they have for us are Xenophobes and sexist. The reason we hate abortion is because we love life. I am pro women, pro child, pro life. Nowhere any more is to be found that Margaret Sanger was a black hater and a eugenic. I also have always wondered why they call it a double homicide when an unborn is murdered like in the Lacy Peterson case but when a woman just desides to discard of her baby it's not murder. A former abortion doctor said there is no good reason for killing a baby anymore bs the mothers life. A mother's life can always be saved. What they use as a reason in 3a mother life or death incident is that she might not finish college or she might be depressed . I'm so sick of the double standards All the negative words are reserved for conservatives and all the positive words are reserved for that liberals
