Missing woman returns home

Residents who voluntarily mounted their own search were relieved to learn 22-year-old Laura Adams returned of her own volition Tuesday night after being missing for more than a day.

Laura’s mother, Gail Adams, reported her daughter missing Monday night between 6:30 and 7 p.m. after Laura did not return home from her regular walk down Warwick Avenue.

When Laura, who has developmental disabilities, returned Tuesday around 8:30, Gail immediately notified police.

Colonel Stephen McCartney, in a brief phone call Wednesday morning, said Laura was uncooperative with authorities about her whereabouts in the past day. They did find out she had made her way to Providence, but not how, why or who she could possibly have visited.

Laura was brought to the hospital for a physical examination.

“At this point,” McCartney said, “we can not determine any criminal activity.”

The family is not answering any questions at this time.
